Monstery Dungeon v0.4, Patch Notes, Discord server, Forum!

v0.4 of Monstery Dungeon is here! This is a big one that changes combat to be a bit more tactically-minded, but not fully a grid-tactics game.

Monstery Dungeon v0.4 Patch Notes:

Major General Updates

  • Grow and Decay dice have been renamed to Evolve and Devolve. I didn’t like the old format.
  • Added the Naturalist skillset and retooled the Mundane skillset to not be affiliated with any Concept.

Major Combat Updates (Ability changes listed at the end of the patch notes)

  • There are now 3 Neutral and 3 Distant positions for each team field, plus a diagram to show this. All diagrams are updated to reflect this change.
  • The combat arena is now formally described as separate from team fields.
  • There are now mechanics that interact with positions that match each other, called mirrored positions.
  • Adjacency is now sharing position, not zone.
  • Positions must now share an edge to move between them.
  • Bonus damage is now formally described.
  • “Move” basic action is now limited to moving to one nearby position.
  • “Take Cover” basic action no longer moves the user to an ally/obstacle, but claiming them as cover instead.
  • Free actions are now formally described.
  • <Unique> ability upgrades have been added.
    • <Unique: Aura> grant a passive effect to you and allies.
    • <Unique: Signature> let you use two Masteries.
    • <Unique: Valor> grant a strong self-effect.
  • New targeting type: beam. This targets one combatant and fires a line from the user extending past the target, hitting all combatants in the line.
  • New Critical effect: Utility critical hits now grant +d6 Armor.
  • HoT and DoT have been removed in favor of just wording the statuses better.
  • Status effects have an upper maximum of [9] duration stacks and {9} potency stacks.
  • Burn now mirrors Poison and reduces <Melee Attack> effectiveness.
  • Poison is now a duration status.
  • Save Checks now properly produce a binary Succeed/Fail result.
  • New abilities: Shadowblade, Rail Dart, Reposition, Calming Word.
  • added <Unique> ability upgrade list after the Ability List.
  • added “Triage Kit” Treasure.

Minor Updates

  • various text fixes, formatting fixes, Uncapitalizing All The Unnecessary Capitalization, and such.
  • Clarified HR or LR are not influenced by Power when by themselves.
  • Attack, Save, and Utility Checks now state that they are influenced by Power.
  • Clarified that FOCUS die cannot crit.

  • “Cook a Meal” Camp Activity no longer requires a Check.
  • Renamed “Locomotive” skillset to “Rider”.
  • Renamed “Aerial” skillset to “Winged”.
  • Changed “Blockade” terrain to reflect new movement rules.
  • Renamed <Mitigation> tag to <Sustain>.
  • Renamed “additive” stacks to “potency” stacks.
  • Renamed “(dX) Die Size” status tracker to “(dX) Die Track”.
  • Renamed “Tick Down (X)” to “X Ticks Down by #” in status effect descriptions.
  • Renamed “Heroic” personality to “Adventurous”, old “Adventurous” to “Confident”.
  • Changed the Pregenerated Characters to match the updated skillsets.
  • Changed Progression page to add the new <Unique> ability upgrades.
  • Changed how <Token> abilities showed information regarding their tokens.
  • Changed “Reflavoring an Ability” section somewhat, but will change further with playtesting.
  • “Dart Band” Treasure changed to be consistent (minor nerf).
  • “Decoy” Treasure nerfed to force an ability to be Ineffective rather than force a fumble.

Ability Changes

  • “Lash” Masteries nerfed.
  • “Raging Strike” reword, and added new Masteries.
  • “Twin Strike” now hits twice, and added new Masteries.
  • “Wide Slash” specified targets and added new Masteries.
  • “Guerilla Tactics” added new Masteries.
  • “Inversion” added new Masteries.
  • “Overdrive” - Metabolize Mastery nerf.
  • “Seism” - Levitate Mastery reword.
  • “Alpha Strike” - Close Combat Mastery changed.
  • Rename “Endeavor” to “Daredevil”. Added new Masteries.
  • “Forbidden Technique” nerf, original effect is now a Critical effect. Added new Masteries.
  • added the “Shadowblade” ability, a CD4 Dark Melee Attack.
  • “Corrode” buffed to use Motorics + Motorics, and added new Masteries.
  • “Scorch” Masteries nerfed.
  • Rename “Splash Shot” to “Splash Dart”. Powder Snow Mastery changed.
  • “Void Wave” is now properly a <Movement> ability. Added a new Mastery.
  • “Boltbeam” is now specified as Electricity, Ice attunements, nerfed damage to make it a beam targeting attack.
  • “Stalagmite” and its Masteries entirely changed to be a beam ability.
  • “Glaciate” added new Masteries.
  • “Psio Shock” added new Masteries.
  • “Seeking Dart” added new Masteries.
  • “Curse Hex” Masteries changed.
  • “Immolate” added new Masteries.
  • “Lashing Winds” added new Masteries.
  • “Psychic Blast” added new Masteries.
  • “Tactical Retreat” added new Masteries.
  • “Tempest” added new Masteries.
  • “Weather Ball” added new Masteries.

  • “Healing Spark” nerf to CD3, and added new Masteries.
  • added the “Calming Word” ability, a CD2 unattuned Utility that Pacifies an ally to grant them buffs.
  • “Cloudscend” added new Masteries and reworded its Tokens.
  • “Lesser Ailment” nerf to CD2, and added new Masteries.
